NewEcoSmart (NES) is a European initiative focused on designing and developing an inclusive model of social innovation that boosts recycling, training and adaptation of adults over 45 years old in rural areas in the face of ecological and digital transition. This proposal focuses on the habitat sector and seeks to revitalize the rural environment through the adoption of circular and socially responsible business models.

NewEcoSmart Pursues:

  • To facilitate professional retraining and improve the digital and ecological skills of people over 45 years old in rural areas, promoting their employability and adaptation to new jobs related to the habitat.
  • Promote skills and social entrepreneurial mindset, to accelerate the incorporation of circular and responsible processes in local production and consumption.
  • Develop and implement NES (NewEcoSmart) communities for the co-design of social innovation methodologies and competency maps adapted to rural challenges.

The project includes:

  • The creation of digital enablers to connect and strengthen the NES ecosystem, as well as the development of new governance and sustainability tools for rural entities.
  • Social experimentation pilots in three countries: Spain, Italy and Portugal, which will serve to validate and scale the results.
  • Expansion of impact through the holding of hackathons and open calls aimed at transferring experiences and best practices among the participating regions.

NewEcoSmart is therefore an example of a European project that combines social innovation, digitalization and circular economy to transform rural life and foster new employment and sustainability opportunities.
