Characterisation of forest management and socio-economic impulse in mountain areas through a communal herd in a digital environment.

The project is committed to the creation of community herds as agents of environmental conservation, capable of caring for their environment as well as creating economic opportunities at the local level. It is funded by the Biodiversity Foundation and is part of a series of actions to "characterise forest management and socio-economic promotion in mountain areas through a community herd in a digital environment".

The aim is not only to implement these herds, but also to understand in depth the impact of these practices on the sustainability of the area and to explore the socio-economic implications for the people who live there.

This initiative provides an opportunity to study and better understand forest management in these environments. It also opens important doors for collaboration between different organisations. In this sense, the collaboration with Val d'Aran, a territory of 10,000 inhabitants that is a perfect example of experimentation in territorial innovation and pilots of this type, stands out. At the same time, the project will establish links with the Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology of Catalonia (IRTA), the project coordinator, with whom the impact of the herd on the territory will be analysed in depth.

The CTIC will have two main roles in the project. The first will be to coordinate Somiedo's collaboration as a pilot within the project. This will ensure the continuation of the pilot project started earlier with the farmers of Valle de Lago, as well as expanding it, deepening its analysis and participating in exchange and learning programmes with other farmers of the peninsula.

On the other hand, CTIC will take the technological lead in developing a digital twin of the territory that will monitor the impact of the herd on the territory in both pilots, providing a management tool for farmers and authorities, as well as communicating the importance of this type of livestock farming to the public.
